RULES OF THE 2ND HALAL TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS - 2025

 

1.   PREAMBLE

These rules govern the terms and conditions for holding the Halal Technical-Scientific Congress – CTecHalal, an event organized by the International Halal Academy and held as one of the activities of the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum. Its purpose is to showcase technical and scientific work developed across various areas of interest to the Halal sector, as well as the experience gained by academics and professionals in the domestic and international markets. The Congress is held in partnership with FAMBRAS HALAL Certificações and CCAB – Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.

 

2. STRUCTURE OF CtecHalal

 The CtecHalal is structured around an Organizing Scientific Committee,

appointed by the Director General of the International Halal Academy, comprising the Secretary General of the International Halal Academy, who will also serve as coordinator, and experts in various areas of interest. The committee’s work sessions will be held according to a schedule and work plan approved by the Director General. The activities of CtecHalal will take place during the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum through lectures, panel discussions, short courses, and presentations of technical and scientific papers on topics related to areas of interest in Halal and professional experience; with publicity and a program approved by the Scientific Organizing Committee and a budget approved by the Director General. The purpose of CtecHalal is to solicit technical and scientific papers for presentation at the Congress, which will take place during the same period as the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum, held in Brazil. The papers will be published in the Congress proceedings.

 

3.   PAPER SUBMISSION

 3.1. Submitted papers must address the topics covered by the following areas of interest in Halal:

• Testing Laboratories;
• Religious Principles;
• Media and Leisure.

 

3.2. All authors of the submitted paper must be identified by their title, institution or organization, city, state and country, and contact email, as shown in the editable template available on the International Halal Academy homepage (www.academyhalal.com). The paper must be submitted to CtecHalal  by the first author listed. Only this author will receive correspondence from the congress organizers and present the paper.

 

3.2.1. Each paper may have a maximum of five authors.

3.2.2.  Authors may be students enrolled in technical, undergraduate, or postgraduate programs at national or international educational institutions, or industry professionals.

 

3.3. All authors of the paper must register and enroll in the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum.

 

3.4. Papers must be submitted to CtecHalal by the deadline established in these regulations. The first author may submit a maximum of 3 (three) technical and/or scientific papers. Papers must be written in Portuguese and may not exceed 5 (five) A4 pages.

 

3.5. Papers must be submitted in .doc format, unlocked and editable, with the title in uppercase letters and no more than 15 words, including monosyllabic, disyllabic, trisyllabic, and polysyllabic words.

 

3.6. Submission of papers for selection and presentation at CtecHalal and publication in the congress proceedings constitutes the authors' irrevocable acceptance of these rules. The International Halal Academy is not responsible for the improper designation of a co-author.

 

 

4. ACCEPTANCE OF PAPERS

4.1. Only papers that fully comply with these guidelines will be considered for selection. Literature reviews will not be accepted. Submitted papers are recommended to include results already obtained. Papers that are still in progress and/or do not yet have results may be accepted.

 

4.2. Submitted papers will be evaluated for acceptance by the Scientific Organizing Committee, which will assess the originality of the approach and compliance with the writing and formatting requirements set out in these guidelines.

 

4.3. The rules for writing and formatting the text must be strictly followed, especially with regard to scientific notation and the applicable technical standards. If there are irreparable failures to comply with the writing and formatting standards, the paper will not be accepted for evaluation.

 

4.4. The originality of the approach will be verified through appropriate bibliographic research, with the assistance of specific software used to check documents for improper copying from other published documents. A limit of 3% is permitted for indications, identified using specific bibliographic research software, of possible improper copying of published documents in the paper submitted for evaluation by CtecHalal.

 

4.5. For the purposes of assessing originality, a document is considered to contain unauthorized copies if it adapts or reproduces excerpts from other published documents without proper compliance with bibliographic citation standards. If excerpts from other published documents are copied without proper bibliographic citations, the paper will not be accepted for evaluation and selection for presentation at CtecHalal, or for publication in the congress proceedings.

 

4.6. The NOT ACCEPTED decision will be duly justified and communicated to the first author by email. Authors may not appeal the decision issued by the Organizing Scientific Committee.

 

 

5. SELECTION OF PAPERS

5.1. ACCEPTED papers will be selected for presentation at CTecHalal, held alongside the Global Halal Brazil – Business Forum.

 

5.2. The Scientific Organizing Committee reviewers’ decisions on the submitted papers will be “ACCEPTED” or “REJECTED”.

 

5.2.1. Among other criteria, reviewers will consider: whether the subject of the paper is relevant to the session topic; clarity of presentation; the context provided for the problem; consistency between the objectives; the rationale and social relevance of the study; the scientific rigor of the hypotheses presented; whether the methodology is consistent with and appropriate to the study’s aims and sufficiently detailed to be replicated; whether the results are clearly described and consistent with the data collected and methods reported; whether the use of charts and tables helps present the topic; whether information about the study results is redundant; and whether the discussion is coherent and up to date, and engages with the stated objectives and findings.

 

5.3. Papers requiring corrections will be sent to the first author. Once corrected, papers must be resubmitted to the Organizing Scientific Committee by the first author within 5 (five) calendar days, starting from the day after notification of the required corrections. Corrected papers resubmitted after the deadline will be REJECTED.

 

5.4. Changes to the titles of papers will only be made if required by the Scientific Organizing Committee. Requests to change titles or authors will not be accepted before the papers have been evaluated and selected.

 

5.5. The REJECTED decision will be duly justified and communicated to the author by email. No appeals against the decision will be accepted.

 

 

6. PRESENTATION OF PAPERS AS PHYSICAL OR DIGITAL POSTERS

6.1. All approved papers will be presented at CtecHalal as a physical or digital banner, at the discretion of the Congress Organizing Committee.

 

6.2. The first author of a paper approved for poster presentation must submit the editable electronic file in .ppt or .pptx format, using the template adopted by the Organizing Committee of CtecHalal, available on the International Halal Academy homepage, within 5 (five) calendar days from the day after notification. The sponsor and event supporter logos in the CtecHalal poster template must not be removed.

 

6.3. The file of the poster paper to be submitted to CtecHalal must be named using the paper title in uppercase letters. No subsequent changes will be allowed. The selected paper must be presented as a poster by its author, provided they can show proof of registration for the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum. Presentation by anyone other than an author of the selected paper is not permitted.

 

6.4. The venue, date, and time for the poster presentation will be included in the CtecHalal program, which will be announced in advance by the event’s Organizing Committee. At the committee’s discretion, the presentation may be live online or pre-recorded.

 

6.5. Banners will be displayed starting on the first day of the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum, in the designated presentation areas, before the scheduled opening time. They may not be removed before CtecHalal concludes. For virtual events, display arrangements will be determined by the event organizers.

 

6.6. The banner presenter must remain at the presentation location throughout the scheduled presentation period, awaiting the Banner Presentation Evaluation Committee. At the end of the presentation, the presenting author must sign the attendance sheet, either in person or virtually. At the discretion of the Evaluation Committee, the author may then be excused from the presentation session but must remain at the event venue until the close of CtecHalal. Signing the attendance sheet is required to receive the banner presentation certificate.

 

6.7. The event’s Organizing Committee and the International Halal Academy will not cover any travel or accommodation expenses for authors whose papers are selected for poster presentation at CTecHalal.

 

6.8. Authors of papers presented as posters at the in-person event may collect them only after CtecHalal has ended. The International Halal Academy and the congress organizers will not ship posters to authors. Posters not collected at the end of the congress will be discarded or donated to interested organizations.

 

6.9. Authors presenting poster papers must prepare them according to the template available on the International Halal Academy website and comply with the following specifications: maximum usable area of 1.08 m²; maximum dimensions of 0.9 m wide by 1.20 m high; use a sans-serif font (Arial, Calibri, etc.) in a size readable from a distance of at least 2.0 m (minimum 28 pt) to ensure participants can read it easily; include the title, authors, affiliated institutions, mailing address and email, introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion; include photographs, graphs, tables and figures to illustrate the findings and conclusions; and display the logos of supporting organizations and sponsors, where applicable.

 

6.10. Poster presentations will be evaluated by two members of the Organizing Scientific Committee and two experts invited by the congress organizers.

 

 

7. ORAL PRESENTATION OF PAPERS

7.1. The selected paper classified for oral presentation at CTecHalal must be presented by its first author, provided they can prove that they registered for the Global Halal Brasil – Business Forum. Presentation by a third party who is not an author of the selected paper is not permitted.

 

7.2. The International Halal Academy will not cover travel or accommodation costs for authors of papers selected for oral presentation at CTecHalal.

 

7.3. Authors whose papers are selected for oral presentation must submit the corresponding PowerPoint files (.pps), no larger than 2 MB, to ctechalal@academiahalal.com.br within 5 calendar days of the announcement of the selected papers. Presentations will last 10 minutes: 7 minutes to present the topic and 3 minutes for discussion.

 

7.4. Oral presentations will take place in virtual or in-person rooms on the dates and at the times set by the Scientific Organizing Committee of CTecHalal.

 

7.5. Oral presentations may be replaced by roundtable discussions at the discretion of the CTecHalal Scientific Organizing Committee. The roundtable will comprise the authors of the paper and members selected by the Scientific Organizing Committee.

 

 

8. CLASSIFICATION OF PAPERS FOR ORAL PRESENTATION

8.1. Of the papers accepted for presentation at CTecHalal, up to 12 (twelve) papers will be selected for oral presentation.

 

8.2. Papers will be evaluated by specialists appointed by the Organizing Scientific Committee of CTecHalal, which will forward the shortlisted papers to the CTecHalal Scientific Review Committee.

 

8.2.1. The Coordinator of the CTecHalal Scientific Organizing Committee will submit the list of papers selected, indicating the authors who will present them, for consideration by the CTecHalal Scientific Evaluation Committee.

 

8.3. The papers selected for oral presentation at CTecHalal will be announced only through publication on the International Halal Academy website and on the event's associated social media channels.

 

 

9.   PUBLICATION OF PAPERS

9.1. The authors are solely responsible for the content of published papers.

 

9.2. Submission of a paper for review and selection at CTecHalal also constitutes permission to use images and to publish the paper in the CTecHalal proceedings and in technical journals deemed appropriate.

 

 

10. FORMATTING PAPERS FOR PUBLICATION IN THE CTecHalal PROCEEDINGS  

10.1. Text formatting

a) The text must be in Word for Windows format, no more than 5 pages long, and written in Times New Roman, 11 pt. Use single line spacing, justified alignment, and 1.25 cm paragraph indentation.

b) The following margins are mandatory for A4-size paper: top, bottom, left and right margins must be 2.5 cm.

c) The title must be written entirely in uppercase, centered, 12 pt, and bold.

d) Authors must be identified in uppercase letters, in Times New Roman, 10 pt. In addition to their full name, authors must provide their profession, institution, city, state, address and correspondence email, also in Times New Roman, 10 pt.

e)  Scientific papers must include a title of no more than 15 words; an abstract of no more than 15 lines; 3 to 5 keywords, which must not appear in the title; an English title; an abstract; keywords; introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusion, and references.

f) The texts of papers and technical reports may also follow this format:

Context or Introduction, Product/Service or Development, Conclusions and References (optional).

g)  The introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusion may be presented as separate or combined technical report sections. Acknowledgments are optional. Section headings must be uppercase and bold, in 11 pt.

h) Table and figure titles must be placed above them, in Times New Roman, 11 pt.

i)   Bibliographical references must follow the examples.

 

10.2. In-text citations

a)  When a citation has only one author: Zonta (2010) or (Zonta, 2010).

b) For citations with two authors: Mielniczuk & Tornquist (2010) or (Mielniczuk & Tornquist, 2010).

c) When citing more than two authors: Pezzopane et al. (2010) or (Pezzopane et al., 2010).

d)  When a paper is authored by an institution/company, cite it using its acronym in uppercase letters. Examples: EMBRAPA (2010) or (EMBRAPA, 2010).

 

10.3. References

References cited in the text must be listed in alphabetical order by the first author’s last name, in ascending chronological order, and include the names of all authors. Formatting examples are provided below:

11. CERTIFICATION

11.1. Certificate of participation in the Halal Technical and Scientific Congress – CtecHalal.                                It will be issued online to all participants in the CTecHalal.

 

11.2. Letter of Acceptance for the selected paper for presentation at CTecHalal.

Certificates will be issued online to authors whose papers have been accepted for presentation at CTecHalal.

 

11.3. Certificate of Merit

It will be issued online to authors whose papers have been selected for presentation

oral presentation at CTecHalal. At the end of the oral presentation session (for in-person attendance), the author who presented the paper will receive a printed certificate.

 

11.4. Certificate of presentation of a poster at CtecHalal. It will be issued online to the author who presented the poster.

 

11.5. CtecHalal Speaker Certificate.

It will be issued online or in print (for in-person events) and given to the speaker at the end of the talk/short course session, indicating the topic of the talk/short course delivered.

 

11.6. Certificate of participation in a short course.

Issued online to short-course participants, stating the course topic and number of hours completed.

 

11.7. Activity Facilitator Certificate from CtecHalal.

Issued online to the moderator at the end of the CtecHalal activity, indicating the topic of the activity.

 

11.8. Certificates issued online will be available to interested parties starting 5 calendar days after the end of CtecHalal. Certificates issued online will be available to recipients in the CtecHalal  registration systems for 90 (ninety) days after the end of the event.

 

 

12.    GENERAL PROVISIONS

12.1. Papers must be submitted to CtecHalal exclusively through the submission system by the deadline specified in the REGULATIONS, published on the International Halal Academy homepage. Papers may not be submitted through the CtecHalal  submission system after the deadline specified in the REGULATIONS.

 

12.2. The data entered in the CtecHalal registration systems are the sole responsibility of the first author and may not be changed later, especially the paper title, which will be used to generate the certificates.

 

12.3. The International Halal Academy and the congress organizers are not responsible for registrations submitted by interested authors that are not officially recorded in the registration system.
