The Halal Technical-Scientific Congress (CTec Halal)
The first event of its kind to be held in Latin America took place on October 23 and 24, 2023, at the WTC Events Center in São Paulo. The congress was led by the International Halal Academy, a private institute specializing in Halal education, training, professional development and continuing education.
CTec Halal aimed to share knowledge and experience of the Halal market with students, academics, professionals and anyone interested in learning more about the subject. The Congress was supported by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, FAMBRAS Halal, Laila Travel, Pão & Arte and Sadi Center.
A Schedule
Day 23 - On the first day of the Congress, the highlight was the presentation of 10 technical and scientific papers on Halal. They had been preselected by the event’s scientific committee and covered a range of topics, including Muslim consumer trust, the use of artificial intelligence to ensure compliance with Halal principles in the food industry, innovation case studies, and research on cultured meat, among many others.
Day 24 - On the second day, the Halal Tourism Training Course took place, during which participants learned about practices and ethics, and how to serve Muslim travelers. The course was held in partnership with the São Paulo State Secretariat for Tourism and Travel.

The day also included the event’s keynote speaker, Professor Luciana Florência de Almeida, PhD, who spoke on the topic “The Importance of Studies and Research for Understanding Markets and Consumers.” Dr. Luciana has an extensive academic and professional background. She leads the Agrifood & Franchising Research Group, is a research partner at PENSA-USP (Center for Agribusiness Studies), is a partner at Stracta Consultoria Estratégia, and teaches undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses at ESPM.
