Lecture at Estácio University highlighted the benefits of dates
On June 3, the International Halal Academy hosted a lecture at Universidade Estácio's Santo Amaro campus on “The Benefits of Dates and Their Religious Significance for Muslims.” Aimed at Gastronomy students, the lecture was delivered by Barbara Domingos, a Chemical and Food Production Engineer who works as a senior analyst in the Quality department at FAMBRAS Halal Certificadora.
During the meeting, Barbara introduced the students to the nutritional properties and uses of dates, sharing technical and practical knowledge about this important food.
The event was attended by academic officials and professors from Universidade Estácio, including Jonas Colvara, Rector of Centro Universitário Estácio de São Paulo; André Ferrari, Provost for Undergraduate Studies; Luciana Lemos, Administrative and Financial Provost; Susana Jhun, who teaches Contemporary and Creative Cuisine, Brazilian Regional Cuisine, and Culinary Techniques; Katia Yoshihara, who teaches Pastry and Baking, Basic Nutrition, and Professional Cooking, as well as Food Hygiene and Safety; and the course coordinator, Helio Takeda, who also teaches Asian Cuisine and Food Preparation. Representing IHA was Delduque Martins, Executive Director and Secretary-General.
The talk was the starting point for other initiatives to be developed in the second half of the year. “We are already organizing workshops and a culinary competition that promises to bring plenty of learning and innovation to everyone involved,” Delduque says.
